Cow Creek

Happy Memorial Day!

We had a fantastic Memorial weekend on Lake Oahe with family and friends.  A crowd of Iowans from back home came up for fishing and fun. Some were old friends, some were new friends.  We fished, we drank, we ate.

The weather threatened storms, but it held off until dark and we had some great days on the water. We had walleye, northern, salmon and white bass in the boats at one time or another.

A good time was had by everyone.

Spring Creek Resort & Marina was a great host.  We sat out on the balcony and enjoy the evenings with dinner and drinks.

The Outpost Lodge provided their Sportman's Den that had plenty of room for everyone to have a bed, get a good nights rest and be prepared for another day on the water.

We caught plenty of fish and had a great picnic/fish fry on Sunday evening with the whole gang and some neighbors too.

Kyle caught his first South Dakota Walleye - and even though it was too cold and windy to go wake boarding - had a great weekend.

On Saturday, Teresa caught her largest Walleye -- 25 inches.

On Sunday, she topped that with a 27 inch walleye.

Kevan and Bob earned bragging rights too.

Two of those beauties were dropped off at Wildlife Unlimited to be mounted.

Lake Oahe "Pike Master" Invitational Championship

The weather was terrible today for the first Lake Oahe "Pike Master" Invitational Championship but that didn't stop Northern fishermen from joining in the fun at The Outpost Lodge. Willie Gloe organized an excellent tournament with a full 19 teams despite blizzard like conditions - blowing snow and a high in the 30s.

The weigh in was at 4:00 in the Hoop Building at the Outpost.  Teams were 2-4 people with best 10 fish weigh in.  First and Second Place were awarded prizes with 100% payout.

There was an optional pot for the largest northern. The Biggest Northern was 21.5 lbs.

Only one team caught the maximum 10 Northern, weighing in at 86 lbs. Second place was 7 Northern, weighing in at 45.5 lbs.

The ice is moving out and the walleye are coming in!!

Lake Sharpe is crowded these days at the stilling basin -
I think you could walk across the river on boats.

They are catching nice walleyes below the dam and with ice out, the Northern are getting frisky.
